Chapter 8 - The Table Turns

The tension in the conference room shifted instantly as Eleanor listened to the voice on her phone, her hands trembling so violently she nearly dropped the expensive device. The untouchable matriarch, who had ruled her family and business empire with an iron fist for decades, suddenly looked small and cornered.
"No, you can't do that! I hold the majority proxy!" Eleanor screamed into the phone, losing her carefully constructed composure entirely.
The line went dead with a sharp click.
Eleanor slowly lowered the phone, her chest heaving beneath her cream-colored Chanel suit. She glared across the room at Marcus Vance, who calmly slipped the printed transcript of her extortion attempt into a leather folder.
"Who authorized that?" Eleanor snarled, pointing a trembling finger at Marcus. "Which board member did you buy off?"
"Nobody bought anyone off, Eleanor," a quiet, weary voice echoed from the doorway of the conference room.
Everyone turned to see Richard standing in the entrance. He looked different—his shoulders were back, and the defeated slouch from the previous night was gone, replaced by a quiet, unbreakable dignity. He held his own tablet computer, tapping the screen to display a live corporate ledger.
"I did, Eleanor," Richard said steadily, stepping into the room. "As the largest individual shareholder holding my late father’s legacy stock, I called an emergency board meeting this morning while you were busy trying to terrorize this office."
Eleanor stared at her husband as if he were a ghost. "You... you signed away your voting rights? You absolute fool! You've ruined us both!"
"I haven't ruined us; I’ve freed us," Richard corrected her, stopping a few feet away from her towering frame. He didn't flinch when she glared at him. "For thirty years, I watched you manipulate, destroy, and isolate everyone who ever loved you. You drove your own daughter into exile. You forged documents to steal her life, and you tried to blackmail our son with his own company."
Richard turned his gaze toward Daniel and Ivy, offering them a deeply apologetic nod. "I filed the paperwork transferring my proxy voting shares to Daniel’s startup board, giving him absolute immunity from your corporate games. Your voting power is officially zero."
Eleanor let out a sharp, furious laugh, though her eyes were wild with panic. "You think this changes anything? I still have my lawyers! I still have custody petitions moving through family court by this afternoon!"
"Not anymore, you don't," a calm, authoritative voice spoke from the hallway outside.
A tall man in a tailored dark suit stepped past the security guards, holding a thick stack of official court-sealed documents. It was Judge Thomas Miller, a retired family court magistrate who now served as a special master for complex domestic cases.

"Mrs. Vance," Judge Miller said, his voice echoing cleanly through the room. "By order of the superior court, your emergency custody petition has been permanently dismissed with prejudice, based on overwhelming evidence of fraud, coercion, and fabricated character testimonies."
