Chapter 6 - The Unwelcome Intrusion

The glass door swung wide with a sharp clatter, revealing Eleanor Vance standing on the threshold. Her blonde hair was impeccably styled, and her dark blue lace dress was replaced by a sharp, cream-colored Chanel pantsuit that radiated intimidating wealth. Flanking her were two towering private security guards in dark suits, their expressions entirely devoid of human warmth.

"Marcus, I see you’re still taking on charity cases for washed-out runaways," Eleanor said, her voice dripping with venom as she glided into the room like an apex predator.

Daniel was out of his chair in a microsecond, stepping between Eleanor and the corner where Lily was playing. "Get out of this office, Eleanor. Right now."

"Daniel, darling, you are making a monumental mistake," Eleanor cooed, ignoring him completely as she fixed her cold, piercing eyes on Ivy. "You have no idea what kind of life this little parasite is dragging you into. Look at her. A broke, uneducated girl who traps men with illegitimate children."

Ivy stood up slowly, her chair scraping loudly against the floor. The fear in her eyes had completely vanished, replaced by a deep, hardened resolve. "Call my daughter a parasite one more time, Eleanor, and I promise you won't need a lawyer—you’ll need an undertaker."

Marcus stood up, his posture towering and authoritative. "Mrs. Vance, you are trespassing in a private legal consultation. If you do not walk out of these doors right this second, I will call the precinct commander and have you arrested for harassment and intimidation."

Eleanor offered a thin, glacial smile, glancing around the room with utter contempt. "You think a few forged bank statements from my spineless husband are going to destroy me, Marcus? Richard is mentally unstable. Anything he gave you is inadmissible hearsay."

"We have the wire transfer routing numbers, Eleanor," Daniel said, his voice dangerously low. "Tied directly to your personal tax identification number. Federal fraud investigators are already reviewing the case packet."

For a split second, a flicker of genuine panic crossed Eleanor’s flawless makeup. But she recovered instantly, masking it with a confident, chilling smirk.

"Let them look," Eleanor replied smoothly, turning her gaze back to Daniel. "By the end of today, a family court judge will grant me temporary guardianship of that child. You think you can play house with a gold-digger? Try doing it from behind bars when I expose the financial schemes you used to fund your tech startup."

Daniel froze. The color drained from his face as Eleanor dropped her final, devastating card.
