Chapter 14 - Orbital Strike

The deafening shriek tearing through the sky above the harbor was not the sound of another corporate helicopter. It was the distinct, bone-rattling sonic boom of an experimental orbital transport breaking the sound barrier directly overhead.
A blinding column of brilliant, searing white light blasted down from the clouds, instantly illuminating the entire shipping yard with the intensity of a midday sun. The sheer electromagnetic pulse of the descending craft hit the harbor like a physical wave, instantly short-circuiting every electronic device, tactical flashlight, and sniper scope within a two-mile radius.
Dr. Evelyn Vance stumbled backward, her tactical operatives shouting in panic as their glowing HUD visors sparked and died in a shower of micro-sparks. “What is that? What frequency is that?!” she screamed over the rising roar, her calm composure finally fracturing into sheer, unadulterated panic.
The unmarked black sedan parked outside the security gate sputtered, its engine dying instantly as the EMP wave wiped its microchips clean. The snipers on the perimeter vanished into the blinding white glare as their targeting systems failed completely.
Inside the medevac helicopter, the heavy electronic doors slammed shut automatically as the backup mechanical overrides engaged. A deep, resonant digital chime echoed through the cabin, completely overriding Evelyn’s genetic override script.
“Orbital override confirmed,” a calm, disembodied mechanical voice announced from the helicopter’s main console. “Global Asset Freezing Protocol Omega engaged. All Sterling assets, holdings, and related corporate entities are now under direct planetary sequestration.”
Clara blinked against the brilliant light, looking down at her satellite tablet. The screen was no longer crimson; it was glowing a deep, serene sapphire blue. Every single file, patent, and offshore account belonging to Marcus, Julian, Victor, and Evelyn was being systematically wiped from existence, leaving nothing behind but an unalterable federal audit trail.
Attorney Vance groaned beside her, slowly pushing himself up off the metal floor, blinking heavily against the dazzling light. “Evelyn... you’re... too late,” he muttered, coughing slightly.
Evelyn stared at her own blank, dead control pad in sheer horror, her face draining of all color. She turned sharply toward the doorway, desperate to escape, but two federal agents—unaffected by the EMP because their gear operated on hardened tactical analog coils—stepped out of the blinding light and clamped heavy steel cuffs onto her wrists.
“Dr. Evelyn Vance, you are under arrest for conspiracy, human trafficking, and high-tech corporate espionage,” the lead agent declared, his voice cutting cleanly through the fading roar of the orbital transport.
As Evelyn was dragged away into the blinding light, kicking and screaming against her inevitable fate, Clara slowly lowered her head to kiss her daughter’s soft forehead. The nightmare was finally over.
Or so she thought.

As the sapphire glow of the tablet slowly faded into darkness, a single, unlisted text message popped up on the screen, originating not from an offshore server, but from the phone in Clara's own coat pocket.
