Chapter 11 - The Unseen Architect

The sleek, unmarked black sedan sat parked just beyond the perimeter fence, its headlights extinguished in the darkness of the harbor. Standing beside the vehicle, bathed in the flashing red and blue glow of the arriving federal cruisers, was a tall, angular woman with sharp blonde hair pulled back into an immaculate bun. She wore a pristine white lab coat that fluttered slightly in the chilly sea breeze, and in her gloved hand, she held a glowing satellite beacon that pulsed with the exact same frequency as the one in Clara’s possession.

Clara froze in the doorway of the helicopter, her breath catching in her throat as she locked eyes with the stranger across the tarmac. The woman didn't flinch or look away; instead, she raised her device slightly, as if acknowledging a signal between chess pieces on a board.

Attorney Vance stepped up beside Clara, following her gaze out into the shadows. The color drained from his face, leaving him looking ashen and hollowed out.

“Who is that?” Clara whispered, a cold knot forming in her stomach. “Is she with Marcus?”

“No,” Vance said, his voice trembling slightly—the first sign of true fear Clara had ever seen in the veteran attorney. “That’s Dr. Evelyn Vance... our older sister. The one the family struck from the corporate records twenty years ago.”

Clara stared at him in disbelief. “Another sibling? How many of you are tied up in this empire?”

“She wasn't part of the corporate side,” Vance muttered, his eyes glued to the figure by the sedan. “Evelyn ran the bio-genetics division before Marcus had her institutionalized to steal her patents. She’s the one who designed the entire surrogate lineage program that brought you into this family.”

Across the tarmac, Dr. Evelyn Vance slowly pressed a button on her device.

Instantly, every single tablet, phone, and computer screen within a half-mile radius—including the federal data drives secured by Attorney Vance—flickered violently. A new, un-deletable file began downloading automatically across every connected node.

The medevac pilot yelled from the cockpit, slamming his hands against the dashboard. “Sir! The encrypted legal vault... it’s being completely overwritten from an outside server! We’re losing the asset dissolution lock!”

Clara looked down at her own satellite tablet. The screen flashed bright crimson, and the secure green checkmark verifying the baby’s independent trust vanished, replaced by a single, terrifying block of text: “Subject ownership reverted to primary genetic architect. Initiating extraction protocol.”

Before Vance could react, the heavy steel security gates of the harbor were blown inward with a deafening blast of compressed air, and a half-dozen heavily armed, unmarked operatives in advanced tactical gear poured through the opening, charging directly toward the helicopter.
