Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Loophole

The high-pitched chime of Clara’s satellite tablet cut through the tense silence of the cabin like a razor. Victor froze, his finger hovering millimeters from the trigger of his suppressed pistol as his eyes darted toward the glowing screen in Clara’s hand.
“What is that?” Victor demanded, his voice tightening with sudden, unmasked paranoia.
Clara didn't answer. With a steady, deliberate movement, she tapped the glowing screen, activating a pre-programmed macro that Attorney Vance had secretly uploaded during their flight. A cold, synthesized automated voice immediately filled the cabin, broadcasting outward through the helicopter’s external PA system across the entire dark harbor.
“Notice of Sovereign Asset Reallocation. Pursuant to Maritime Code 44-B and Federal Custody Protection Act, all corporate assets of Sterling Global are now legally forfeit due to active armed assault on a protected federal witness.”
Victor’s face drained of all color. He lunged forward, trying to grab the tablet from Clara’s hand, but Attorney Vance intercepted him with a brutal, textbook tackle, driving his older brother hard against the metal bulkhead of the helicopter. The pistol clattered from Victor’s hand, sliding across the floor and wedging itself underneath the medical gurney.
“You absolute lunatic!” Victor roared, struggling wildly beneath his brother’s grip as they wrestled on the floor. “The board will tear you apart! You have no legal precedent for a total corporate dissolution!”
“I don't need precedent,” Attorney Vance grunted, pinning Victor’s arm behind his back with a sharp twist and slapping a pair of heavy tactical zip-ties around his wrists. “You just committed an armed felony on a live federal broadcast. The entire board is already under arrest by the regional FBI field office.”
Outside the helicopter, the heavy roar of approaching sirens began to waken the harbor, flashing red and blue lights painting the thick fog in swirling patterns. Through the reinforced glass, Clara watched heavily armed federal agents swarm the tarmac, rounding up the panicked corporate guards who were dropping their weapons in surrender.
Clara looked down at her newborn daughter, who was sleeping peacefully despite the chaos raging all around them. The infant’s tiny chest rose and fell in a steady, calming rhythm. The nightmare of the Sterling dynasty’s control was finally shattering into dust.
Vance stood up, breathing heavily as he adjusted his rumpled suit jacket and kicked Victor’s discarded pistol away. He looked at Clara with a mix of profound respect and lingering concern. “Are you alright? We need to get you to a proper medical facility immediately.”
Clara nodded slowly, a deep, weary sigh escaping her lips. “I’m okay. We’re both okay.”
She turned toward the open door, watching the federal agents secure the perimeter below. But as the fog cleared further, revealing the dark silhouette of a sleek, unmarked black sedan parked just outside the security gate, Clara noticed something that made her blood run cold.

A single figure stood beside the sedan, watching the helicopter with a chilling, knowing smile. It wasn't Marcus, and it wasn't Julian. It was someone Clara had never seen before—someone wearing a pristine white lab coat and holding a second, identical satellite beacon.
