Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Trap

Morning sunlight broke through the towering glass windows of the Vance-Moretti corporate skyscraper, casting sharp, blinding geometric shadows across the mahogany executive boardroom. Clara sat at the head of the massive obsidian table, wearing a structured ivory pantsuit that projected absolute authority. Her diamond earrings caught the morning light as she smirked, sliding a thick leather-bound dossier across the polished surface toward the senior board members.
"Gentlemen," Clara began, her voice dripping with calculated sweetness. "As you know, the upcoming merger with the Moretti Group secures our dominance in the global market for the next decade. All that remains is the final ratification of my primary shareholder authority, alongside my formal union with Julian."
The elderly chairman of the board, Mr. Henderson, adjusted his glasses and flipped open the dossier. His furrowed brows knitted together as he read the fine print. "Miss Moretti, this clause granting you total veto power over corporate restructuring... it requires a dual signature. Where is Julian?"
Before Clara could answer, the heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open with a resounding bang. Julian walked in, his black suit jacket impeccably tailored, his white shirt crisp and unwrinkled. His dark hair was slicked back, and his face was carved from stone. He did not look at Clara as he took his seat directly opposite her, placing a thin manila folder squarely in the center of the table.
Clara’s smile faltered for just a fraction of a second before she recovered, her eyes narrowing into cold slits. "Darling, you missed breakfast. But no matter, you’re just in time to sign away the archaic liabilities and finalize our future."
"There will be no merger, Clara," Julian said. His voice was steady, resonant, and carried an absolute finality that silenced the murmuring board members instantly.
Clara laughed, a sharp, mocking sound that echoed off the glass walls. "Don't be absurd, Julian. Without my family's capital infusion by noon today, this entire enterprise defaults to bankruptcy, and every asset you own goes to liquidation. Sign the papers."
Julian slid his manila folder across the table, stopping it right against Clara’s pristine ivory sleeve. "I don't need your family's capital anymore. Because twenty minutes ago, the federal government officially seized the Moretti Group's primary accounts under charges of international asset laundering."
The color vanished from Clara’s face as she stared at the official court seal stamped on the top document. She slammed her hands down on the table, her voice cracking with sudden, unbridled rage. "You lying bastard! You planned this all along!"

Julian leaned back in his leather chair, crossing one leg over the other, and locked eyes with her. "I told you to leave before I made you. But you just had to push."
