Chapter 3 - The Lens of Betrayal

The glowing red light of the smartphone seemed to burn a hole into the quiet space between Julian and Elena. The assistant, a sharp-featured woman named Victoria, slowly lowered her device, her lips curled into a triumphant, venomous smile. The silence of the grand hotel hallway was deafening, save for the hum of the ventilation system. Julian’s expression darkened instantly, a dangerous flash crossing his eyes as he recognized the magnitude of the breach.

"Victoria," Julian said, his voice dropping into an icy, lethal whisper that sent a visible shudder through the assistant. "Delete it. Right now."

Victoria took a slow step backward, her back pressing against the polished white panels. She clutched the phone tighter to her chest, as if holding a winning lottery ticket. "I wouldn't do that, Mr. Vance. Clara pays very well for exclusive content. And a video of the billionaire CEO comforting a common hotel maid—touching her so intimately while still engaged to the primary shareholder? That’s not just a scandal. That’s billions wiped off your stock value by noon tomorrow."

Elena gasped, covering her mouth with her hand as panic surged through her veins. "Please, Victoria. You don't understand the full story. Delete the footage. It will ruin innocent lives."

"Innocent lives?" Victoria sneered, her eyes darting greedily between them. "Oh, save the melodrama for the tabloids, little maid. Miss Clara has been looking for a reason to cut you all loose and clear out the old management anyway. This just accelerates the timeline."

Julian didn't raise his voice, nor did he panic. Instead, he took two calm, calculated steps forward, his massive frame blocking Victoria’s only escape route toward the main elevators. The tattoos on his neck seemed to pulse with suppressed fury. Yet, his face remained terrifyingly serene.

"You think you hold all the cards because of a ten-second video?" Julian asked, his tone deceptively soft. He reached into his tailored black suit jacket slowly, making no sudden movements. "Victoria, check your corporate email. Look at the sender address from thirty seconds ago."

Frowning with sudden suspicion, Victoria kept her eyes locked on Julian while her thumb tapped frantically on her screen. She opened her mail app. The color drained completely from her face as her eyes scanned the top message. Her breath caught in her throat.

"You... you couldn't have," Victoria stammered, her fingers suddenly trembling so violently she nearly dropped the phone onto the marble floor.

Julian pulled a sleek gold-plated fountain pen from his pocket, rolling it slowly between his fingers. "Every unauthorized data transfer from your terminal to Clara’s private server has been legally classified as corporate espionage under federal jurisdiction. The moment you press 'send' on that video, the federal marshals waiting downstairs will execute the warrant."
