Chapter 1 - The Shattered Reflection

The polished marble floor of the grand hotel hallway reflected the glittering chandeliers, but the atmosphere was freezing. Clara stood over Elena, her sleeveless red satin dress catching the harsh light. Clara’s diamond earrings swung violently as she pointed a manicured finger down at the trembling girl.
"Get out of my sight!" Clara screamed, her voice echoing off the white panel walls.
Elena huddled tightly against the massive decorative wall mirror, clutching her stomach in acute distress. Tears streamed down her pale face as she pressed herself further into the ornate gold frame.
"Please… leave me alone," Elena sobbed softly, her voice barely carrying over the hum of the hotel's ventilation system.
Julian, standing right behind Clara, watched the cruel display with a cold, unreadable expression. His dark hair was combed back, and the intricate tattoos visible on his neck and ear seemed to pulse with tension against his crisp white dress shirt and black suit jacket. Without a single word of warning, Julian stepped forward and firmly gripped Clara’s bare arm, pulling her back with calculated force.
"Don’t touch her again," Julian said, his voice dropping into a sharp, commanding register that brooked no argument.
Clara whipped her head around, her expression contorting from pure rage into absolute shock. Her mouth parted slightly as she stared at the man she had called her fiancé for three agonizing years.
"You’re protecting her?" Clara asked, her voice cracking with profound disbelief and venomous betrayal.
Julian did not answer her with words. Instead, he released her arm, dropped slowly to one knee beside the weeping maid, and placed a steady, comforting hand on Elena’s shaking shoulder. He looked up past the gold mirror frame, fixing Clara with an intense, warning glare.
"Leave before I make you," Julian said quietly.

Clara stood frozen for a second, her chest heaving beneath the red satin, before she turned on her heel and stormed down the hallway, her designer heels clicking a furious rhythm against the marble. Julian turned his full attention back to Elena, helping her to her feet with an intimacy that suggested a deep, hidden history. As Elena stood, she brushed back a stray lock of brown hair, revealing a small, jagged scar hidden just beneath her collarbone—a scar identical to the one Julian wore over his heart.
