Chapter 14 - The Final Boardroom

The dial tone hummed softly in the quiet holding room before cutting out entirely, leaving Julian and Grandmother trapped in a suffocating silence that felt heavier than any gunfire they had faced.

"They want the children," Julian whispered, the horrifying truth dawning on him with blinding clarity. "The corporate assets were never the real target; Maya and the baby are the living cryptographic keys to the entire Blackwood empire."

Grandmother sank heavily into the leather armchair, her strength appearing to abandon her for the first time as she stared down at the polished wooden floor.

"We can't let them have the children, Julian," she said, her voice cracking with exhaustion and deep-seated fear. "If the Blackwood Syndicate gets their hands on that DNA signature, they will control an economic weapon capable of destabilizing half the governments in the Western world."

Julian walked over to the window, watching the distant cargo ships moving slowly across the harbor while his mind raced through every possible tactical option available to them.

"We aren't going to Geneva, and we aren't handing over the children," Julian declared firmly, turning back to face the old matriarch with a fierce, unwavering resolve burning in his blue eyes. "We're going to use their own trap against them."

Grandmother looked up, a glimmer of her old combative spirit returning to her eyes as she straightened her posture in the armchair.

"What do you have in mind, boy?" she asked quietly.

Julian pulled out his encrypted laptop from his leather briefcase, plugging the satellite transmitter he had recovered from the mercenary’s vest directly into the USB port.
