Chapter 8: Confrontation on the Tarmac

Rain lashed across the tarmac at Teterboro Airport as Julian Vance sprinted toward the stairs of a Gulfstream jet, clutching a heavy leather briefcase filled with bearer bonds and false passports.
A black helicopter touched down fifty yards away, its rotors whipping the rain into a frenzy.
Two Port Authority police cruisers blocked the runway from the rear, sirens flashing bright red and blue. Eleanor stepped out of the helicopter, accompanied by Agent Miller and Arthur Cross.
"Julian!" Eleanor shouted over the roar of the engines.
Julian spun around, his tailored coat soaked, his face twisted in desperate rage. He pulled a compact revolver from his pocket, aiming it straight at Eleanor.
"You should have let him stay dead!" Julian screamed, his voice cracking. "Everything Father built belonged to me! You and your husband were weak—giving billions away to orphanages and homeless shelters!"
"You tried to murder an infant for money," Eleanor said, walking forward without an ounce of fear. "You are not a businessman, Julian. You are a coward."
"Step back or I swear I'll shoot!" Julian shrieked.
A laser sight painted Julian’s chest from an FBI sniper positioned on the hangar roof.

"Drop the weapon, Julian," Miller’s voice boomed through a megaphone. "It’s over."
