Chapter 11: The Foundation of Hope

Two months later, Eleanor stood before a gathering of hundreds of reporters, city officials, and community leaders outside the newly renovated St. Jude's Community Center in Brooklyn.
Beside her, Alex stood tall in a sharp navy blazer, no longer the shivering boy on 5th Avenue, but a confident child with a bright future.
"Seven years ago, a woman named Rosa taught this city what true wealth means," Eleanor announced into the bank of microphones. "Today, we launch the *Rosa & Alex Vance Foundation* with an initial endowment of five hundred million dollars."
The crowd erupted into applause.
"This foundation will ensure that no mother loses her child to poverty, and no child on the streets of New York is ever left without shelter, hot food, and medical care," Eleanor continued.
Alex stepped up to the microphone. The boy who had once begged for food smiled brightly at the cameras.
