Chapter 14: The Rooftop Garden

On Alex’s eighth birthday, Eleanor surprised him with a special gift atop the penthouse roof.
Where cold gravel once sat, a vibrant rooftop garden now bloomed with white roses, apple trees, and lush green grass overlooking the golden Manhattan skyline.
In the center of the garden stood a bronze statue of a kind elderly woman holding an open silver heart pendant, inscribed with the words: *Rosa Martinez — The Guardian Angel of New York.*
Alex walked over to the statue, laying a fresh bouquet of yellow roses at its base.
"Thank you, Mama Rosa," Alex whispered into the gentle breeze. "I'm safe now."
Eleanor walked up behind him, wrapping her arms around his shoulders as the evening sun bathed the city in warm shades of amber and gold. The distant hum of traffic felt peaceful from high above.
"She would be so proud of you, my boy," Eleanor said softly.

"I have two moms watching over me," Alex said, leaning his head against her arm. "One in heaven, and one right here."
