Chapter 13: The Trial of the Century
The federal trial of Julian Vance concluded six months later in the Southern District Court of New York. The evidence was overwhelming: racketeering, attempted murder, arson, and corporate fraud.
When the jury delivered twelve guilty verdicts, Julian sat motionless at the defense table, stripped of his wealth, titles, and freedom. The judge sentenced him to consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.
Outside the courthouse, reporters swarmed Eleanor as she walked down the marble steps holding Alex’s hand.
"Mrs. Vance! How does it feel to finally have justice?" a journalist called out.
Eleanor paused, looking down at her son, then up at the clear blue sky.
"Justice is putting the guilty behind bars," Eleanor answered clearly. "Peace is taking your child home. Today, we have both."
