Chapter 15: Golden Hour

Seven years of searching, sleepless nights, and bitter tears were finally washed away by the light of a new beginning.
Eleanor and Alex stood together at the edge of the terrace as the sun dipped behind the Hudson River, painting the sky in brilliant hues of violet, orange, and gold. The bustling streets below, once a place of loneliness and despair, were now filled with the promise of thousands of children being fed and sheltered through their foundation.
Alex reached inside his shirt, pulled out the silver heart-shaped locket, and snapped it open one last time.
The two tiny portraits—the mother’s warm smile and the baby’s hopeful eyes—shone brightly against the golden hour light.
"Close it, Mom," Alex said with a peaceful smile. "We don't need to look at the past anymore."
With a soft, definitive *click*, Eleanor closed the silver hinge.

She lifted Alex into her arms, pressing a gentle kiss to his brow as the city lights flickered to life around them like a sea of stars.
They were home. They were whole. And love had finally won.
