Chapter 14 - The Final Bluff

The cold muzzle of the silenced pistol pressed firmly against Mark’s temple, making him whimper in absolute terror. The wind off the harbor whipped through Elena’s hair as she stood her ground, her fingers tightening around the handle of the black suitcase. Every second felt like an eternity, the silence of the abandoned docks stretching until the tension became almost unbearable.

"You're making a mistake," Elena said, her voice remaining steady and chillingly calm. "If you pull that trigger, the federal servers in Washington automatically receive the encryption override code. You won't just lose the money—you'll give the FBI the exact IP address of every safehouse you operate in Europe and Asia."

The scarred man hesitated, his finger resting lightly on the trigger. He glanced back toward the dark shadows of the pier where the unmarked federal vehicles were hidden. For a fraction of a second, doubt flickered in his cold eyes.

"You're lying," the man hissed, though his hand lowered by an inch. "Nobody builds an auto-destruct protocol into a commercial asset."

"Test me," Elena challenged, taking half a step forward and dropping the black suitcase onto the concrete with a heavy thud. "Open the bag. Look at the primary serial number on the internal drive. Run it through your portable terminal right now."

The man signaled to one of his associates, who hurried over with a ruggedized laptop, dropped to one knee beside the suitcase, and punched in the sequence visible on the exterior tag. The screen flared with a bright red warning prompt that read: ACCESS RESTRICTED - BIOMETRIC SYNC REQUIRED.

The associate looked up, his face draining of color.

"Boss... it’s real. The encryption gateway is locked to her thumbprint."

The scarred man cursed under his breath, lowering the gun completely from Mark’s head and turning his gaze back to Elena with murderous fury.

"Step away from the bag. Put your hands behind your back or he dies right here."

Before Elena could respond, a deafening roar shattered the silence of the harbor.

Four tactical vehicles burst from behind the container stacks with their high-beam headlights blindingly bright, trapping the SUV and the suspects against the edge of the pier. The screech of tires and the amplified voice of Detective Vance echoing through a bullhorn filled the night air.

"FBI! Drop your weapons! You are completely surrounded!"

Chaos erupted instantly. The scarred man lunged for the suitcase, but a sharp crack from a federal sharpshooter’s rifle shattered the pavement inches from his boots. Two tactical officers swarmed the SUV from the flanks, tackling the associates to the ground before they could raise their weapons.

Mark collapsed onto his knees, sobbing uncontrollably as the cold steel cuffs were finally placed around the scarred man’s wrists.

Detective Vance walked briskly over to Elena, checking her over with a concerned expression.

"Are you alright, Mrs. Davis?"

Elena nodded slowly, taking a deep, ragged breath as the adrenaline finally began to recede from
