Chapter 7: The Unwelcome Return

The tranquility shattered on a Tuesday afternoon. Sarah was waiting in the school pickup line, parked in the designated accessible spot, when Chloe suddenly appeared, tapping aggressively on the passenger side window.

Sarah’s heart hammered, but her face remained a mask of stone. She cracked the window just an inch.

""You think you've won?"" Chloe hissed, her eyes wild, her blonde hair unkempt. ""The DA is offering a plea deal, Sarah. If you drop the civil suit, I walk. If you don't, I will make sure child services knows exactly how many times you've fallen out of that chair this month.""

""Stay away from my daughter's school,"" Sarah said, her voice dropping to a lethal, quiet register. ""Or the police will be the least of your problems.""

She rolled the window up, her hands shaking slightly on the steering wheel. She had to end this permanently. Chloe was a cornered animal, and cornered animals were dangerous.
