Chapter 10: The Counter-Strike

It was time to go on the offensive. Sarah called Miriam, her attorney, that evening.
""No more waiting,"" Sarah said, her voice hard. ""Chloe is trying to ruin us out of spite. I want to push the civil suit forward. I want her completely detached from the family trust, and I want a permanent restraining order. I want her gone.""

Miriam agreed. They spent the next three weeks compiling mountains of evidence. Bank statements showing Chloe draining the estate to fund her lavish lifestyle while Sarah was in a coma; emails proving Chloe tried to bribe the orphanage director to take Lily back; and the police reports of harassment.
They were building an ironclad case. Sarah was no longer just defending her home; she was burning down Chloe’s ability to ever threaten them again.
