Chapter 6: Planting Roots

Spring arrived, thawing the frost that had gripped the estate. Sarah decided it was time to reclaim the overgrown backyard. She ordered raised garden beds—high enough for her to work comfortably from her wheelchair—and bags of rich, dark soil.
Together, mother and daughter spent their weekends planting tomatoes, basil, and bright yellow sunflowers.
""Why do we put the seeds in the dark dirt?"" Lily asked, her hands coated in mud.

""Because sometimes, things need to be in the dark for a little while so they can figure out how to grow toward the light,"" Sarah explained, packing the soil gently around a sapling.
It was a metaphor neither of them missed. They had both survived the dark. Now, they were building a life that was deeply rooted, vibrant, and entirely their own. The garden became their sanctuary, a place where mobility didn't matter, only patience and care.
