Chapter 1 - The Wedding Banquet Collapse

The crystal chandeliers of the Grandview Hotel ballroom cast a brilliant, merciless glow over the hundred empty chairs of the wedding banquet. Graham stood frozen beside the mahogany head table, his black tuxedo immaculate, his bow tie slightly askew from the adrenaline surging through his veins. Three-year-old Chloe clutched her half-eaten, frosted vanilla cupcake against her white dress, her chest heaving with silent, terrified sobs. Clara, thirty-five and trembling in her heavy sequined beaded wedding gown, reached out a manicured hand that shook uncontrollably.
"Gram, it's just a misunderstanding, she wandered off," Clara whispered, her voice cracking with a desperate plea that echoed hollowly off the marble floor.
Graham’s jaw tightened until a muscle jumped violently in his cheek. He looked down at the toddler clinging to his lapel, then glared up at his new wife with eyes cold enough to freeze boiling water.
"She was hiding under the table because you told her to," Graham said, his voice dropping to a low, furious rumble that vibrated through the quiet room. "We're leaving. Now."
Clara took a frantic step forward, her silk heels clicking sharply against the floor. "You don't understand the full picture, Graham. If we walk out of this hotel right now, everything we've built—everything I've sacrificed—disappears in an instant. Please, just listen to me for two minutes."
Graham didn't break eye contact. He shifted Chloe higher onto his hip, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the child's small back. "I’ve listened to your lies for two years, Clara. The phone calls, the late nights at the gallery, the sudden bank withdrawals. And now you’re using my daughter as a pawn in whatever sick game you’re playing on our wedding day."
"She isn't a pawn!" Clara cried out, her composure finally shattering as a tear tracked through her carefully applied makeup. "She’s the only reason I agreed to marry you in the first place!"
Graham stopped dead in his tracks toward the exit, his head snapping back around to stare at her in absolute disbelief.
"What did you just say?" Graham demanded, his voice dangerously quiet.

Before Clara could answer, a heavy thud echoed from the double doors behind them, followed by the slow, deliberate click of a heavy metal briefcase snapping open in the hallway.
