Chapter 1 - The Accusation at Dawn

The morning sun cast harsh, blinding glares across the pristine surface of the outdoor apartment pool area. The atmosphere was thick with the scent of chlorine and baking concrete, surrounded by sleek, modern high-rise buildings that pierced the hazy sky. Standing barefoot on the manicured turf, a forty-five-year-old Caucasian woman with brown hair secured tightly in a bun by a white clip adjusted her designer sunglasses. She wore a vibrant red tunic dress draped carelessly over a pink bikini, her posture rigid with indignation.
A few feet away, sitting casually on the cool edge of the water with her legs submerged, was a twenty-five-year-old brunette woman named Maya. Her long hair was dripping wet, clinging to her shoulders over a dark blue one-piece swimsuit. Inside the water, treading lazily, was a fifty-year-old shirtless man wearing striped swim trunks, his expression shifting from calm to cautious as the silence shattered.
The woman in red pointed a trembling, manicured finger straight at Maya’s face, her voice cutting through the quiet morning air with sharp authority.
"Get out of the pool!" the woman shouted, her face flushing a deep crimson under her sunglasses. "This area is for my residence only! You people think you can just wander in here from the public streets and use our amenities whenever you please!"
Maya blinked slowly, her breathing even and controlled as she looked up. She did not flinch, nor did she raise her voice. She merely tilted her head, maintaining a steady, unsettling gaze that made the older woman twitch with annoyance.
"My name is Maya," she said quietly, her voice dangerously calm. "And I live in Penthouse B. Which happens to own fifty percent of this building's shared deed."
The woman in red scoffed, lowering her hand slightly but keeping her chin high. "Liar. I know every single resident on this property, and I have never seen you a day in my life. Security will have you removed immediately."
From the water, the fifty-year-old man in striped trunks finally pushed himself up against the pool wall, resting his forearms on the tile. His eyes flicked nervously between the two women.
"Evelyn," the man said, his voice deep and laden with a sudden, palpable tension. "Let it go. Just drop it."
Evelyn turned her head sharply toward the man in the pool, her jaw dropping open in utter disbelief.
"Richard? You know her?" Evelyn demanded, stepping closer to the edge.
May you like
Maya smiled softly, a cold expression that didn't reach her eyes. She slowly stood up from the pool edge, water dripping from her dark blue swimsuit onto the concrete. She stepped past Evelyn, brushing her bare shoulder against the older woman's red tunic, and leaned in close to whisper something that made Richard instantly turn pale.
