Chapter 1 - Shattered Vows

The afternoon sun beat down mercilessly through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the penthouse, casting long, sharp shadows across the imported Italian marble. Clara stood frozen near the center of the vast, minimalist living room, her fingers clutching the soft fabric of her white off-shoulder dress as if it were a lifeline. Her breath came in shallow, ragged gasps, her hand instinctively pressing against the sharp roundness of her seven-month pregnancy. The sharp pain of betrayal radiated not just from her heart, but deep within her core, threatening to overwhelm her senses completely.
Julian stood just a few feet away, his crisp white button-down shirt slightly rumpled, his black pants fitted neatly against his frame. His posture was rigid, his jaw clenched in a desperate display of defiance that masked absolute panic. Beside him stood Lauren, her slender body draped in a liquid gold satin slip dress that clung to her curves like molten metal. Lauren’s lips were curled into a predatory, victorious smirk, her manicured fingers hooked possessively around Julian’s forearm.
"Don't speak to Lauren like that," Julian barked sharply, his voice slicing through the heavy, suffocating silence of the room like broken glass.
Clara stared at him, her eyes wide, glassy with unshed tears that finally spilled over her flushed cheeks. The man she had loved, protected, and built a life with for five years was now actively shielding the woman who had invaded their home.
Clara’s voice trembled, cracking under the weight of her unbearable anguish.
"Are you sleeping with her?"
Lauren shifted closer to Julian, pressing her cheek against his shoulder, her eyes gleaming with malice.
"I think she still doesn't understand."
A cold shudder ran down Clara’s spine, fueling a sudden surge of fiery resolve beneath her tears. She wiped her cheek with the back of her hand, her gaze locking onto Lauren with terrifying clarity.
"Understand completely."
Before Julian could formulate a defensive response, the heavy oak double doors at the entrance of the penthouse swung open with a resounding thud. Two towering bodyguards in dark suits stepped aside to clear the path. Walking slowly into the room was Victoria Sterling, Clara’s estranged billionaire father, his sharp black suit immaculate, his silver hair combed back with ruthless precision. His cold, piercing eyes swept over Julian and Lauren with absolute disdain, before landing with a softer, protective warmth on his daughter. Deep emotional tension filled the cavernous room, suffocating every breath.
Victoria stepped forward, his voice a low, gravelly rumble that commanded total obedience.
"We made her a promise."
May you like
Clara stared at her father, her breath catching as the realization of what his arrival meant began to dawn on her.
