Chapter 11 - The Breach of the Vault

The digital keypad on the holding cell flashed green with a sharp, high-pitched chime. With a pneumatic hiss, the heavy iron door swung outward, revealing the dimly lit corridor where Elena and Thomas Sterling stood waiting.
"We don't have much time," Sterling said, handing Adrian a heavy-duty tactical flashlight. "Marcus has initiated the final asset transfer. At midnight, all domestic accounts are being routed through a shell company in the Caymans. Once that transfer completes, the Vance Corporation legally ceases to exist in your name."
Adrian stepped out of the cell, rolling his shoulders and shaking off the stiffness from his confinement. "Where is Lily?"
"Safe," Elena said softly, a reassuring smile touching her tired face. "I left her with Detective Miller from the precinct upstairs. She’s wrapped in a blanket in the squad car, eating hot chocolate. She's safe, Mr. Vance. Now let's finish this."
Adrian nodded, a cold, calculated determination settling over him. He wasn't just fighting for his inheritance anymore; he was fighting for his family's honor, and for the safety of the little girl who had risked everything to pull that flash drive from the dark.
"The ledger," Adrian said, turning back toward the subterranean bunker where the grand library's floor vent opened. "My father said the original paper ledger is hidden in the false bottom of the vault."
"I know the exact spot," Sterling replied, tapping his temple. "Arthur had me design that compartment thirty years ago, before Marcus even knew how to spell embezzlement."
The trio moved swiftly through the damp, vaulted corridors, bypassing the burning remains of the server racks by cutting through an old HVAC maintenance tunnel. As they approached the subterranean base of the grand library, the muffled sound of raised voices drifted down from above.
Clara and Marcus were arguing near the main control console.
"The transfer is stalling!" Clara’s voice echoed down the ventilation shaft, shrill with panic. "Adrian's personal security key isn't authorizing the final block! We need his biometric signature from the physical terminal in the library!"
"Then drag him down here!" Marcus roared back. "I don't care if he's conscious or not!"
Adrian exchanged a quick, knowing glance with Sterling and Elena. He reached into his pocket, pulling out the silver flash drive.

"They want my biometric signature?" Adrian whispered, a dangerous smile touching the corners of his mouth. "Let's give them a front-row seat to their own execution."
