Chapter 5 - The Frozen Signature

The glaring light from the projector cast harsh shadows across Vivian's face as the video looped, showing the forged tags being stitched into sub-standard fabric over and over again. The silence in the boardroom was suffocating. CFO Arthur Pendelton slowly removed his glasses, pinching the bridge of his nose as if trying to massage away a sudden, splitting migraine.

"The shell company... Vance-Holdings-Global," Arthur muttered, reading the corporate registration details displayed in the corner of the screen. "Vivian, you registered this entity in the Cayman Islands three weeks after the initial production audit."

Vivian swallowed hard, her chest heaving beneath the black pantsuit. Her defiant posture collapsed, her shoulders slumping as she realized every escape route had been systematically sealed. "It was... it was a strategic hedge," she stammered, her voice losing its sharp, authoritative edge. "Everyone uses offshore structures to mitigate tax exposure. It wasn't about the quality; it was about protecting our bottom line from market volatility!"

"You didn't protect the bottom line, Vivian; you endangered our entire retail license," Clara said, finally pulling out the high-backed leather chair at the head of the table and sitting down with deliberate grace. She steepled her fingers, her gaze locking onto her sister with cold, unyielding precision. "The federal trade commission has already flagged three shipments from that specific facility. If we don't voluntarily recall every single item bearing those fraudulent tags by midnight, the government will seize our assets, freeze our accounts, and slap us with criminal indictments."

A heavy murmur of alarm rippled through the board members. Several executives hastily stood up, gathering their portfolios, visibly desperate to distance themselves from the unfolding catastrophe.

"Miss Clara," one senior vice president interjected, his voice trembling slightly. "What are your immediate directives? How do we mitigate this exposure before the market opens tomorrow morning?"

Clara didn't blink. "Step one: We issue a voluntary global recall citing quality control failures, taking the full PR hit proactively rather than waiting for a regulatory subpoena. Step two: We liquidate the offshore shell company and return every diverted dollar to the corporate reserve fund by close of business." She paused, turning her gaze back to Vivian. "Step three: Vivian signs over her remaining voting shares to the family trust, effective immediately, in exchange for avoiding criminal prosecution."

Vivian gasped, stepping backward until her spine hit the heavy mahogany door. "Sign over my shares? That's my entire life's work! You're stripping me of everything!"

"I am offering you a choice between a boardroom table and a prison cell," Clara replied softly. "Choose wisely."

Marcus stepped forward, placing a thick paper document and a heavy gold fountain pen on the table directly in front of Vivian.

Vivian looked down at the pen, her hand hovering over it like it was a venomous snake, trembling violently as the pen cap rolled off onto the floor.
