Chapter 13 - The Final Corner

The heavy steel door of the archive vault shuddered as Marcus and a specialized tactical extraction team slammed a hydraulic breaching ram against the exterior hinges. The dull, rhythmic thuds echoed like a war drum through the narrow sub-level corridor. Inside the vault, Miller frantically pounded his fists against the reinforced steel, his tactical flashlight beam slicing wildly across the stone walls.

"Open this door!" Miller roared, his voice cracking with sudden, desperate panic. "You can't trap me in here! The foreign buyers will wipe you out! You won't survive the international lawsuits!"

Clara stood just outside the vault door, watching his frantic movements through the high-definition security monitor mounted in the hallway. Her expression remained completely unreadable—calm, composed, and utterly resolute.

"You underestimated the Vance family twice today, Miller," Clara spoke into the handheld comms unit, her voice carrying clearly through the intercom inside the vault. "Once when you thought you could manipulate my father's health, and once when you thought a corporate title made me weak. You're not dealing with a designer anymore. You're dealing with the owner."

With a final, deafening crash, the hydraulic ram blew the heavy steel hinges off the archive door. The thick metal slab tilted inward, slamming heavily against the concrete floor with a cloud of dust and pulverized brick.

Marcus and four tactical officers poured into the vault instantly, their weapons raised. Before Miller could even reach for his sidearm, Marcus tackled him hard to the ground, pinning his chest to the cold concrete and snapping heavy steel handcuffs securely around his wrists.

Vivian slumped weakly against her chair as one of the tactical officers stepped forward with a pair of heavy-duty shears, cutting through the industrial packing tape wrapped around her mouth. Vivian gasped for air, coughing violently, her eyes darting frantically around the ruined vault until they locked onto Clara, who stood framing the doorway like a statue of unyielding justice.

"Clara..." Vivian whispered, her voice broken, sounding infinitely smaller than the aggressive woman who had tripped her on the marble floor less than twenty-four hours ago. "I... I didn't know he was going to hurt Dad. I swear I didn't know."

Clara looked down at her sister, her gaze softening just a fraction, though the pain of the betrayal remained deeply etched in her eyes.

"You cared more about power than family, Vivian," Clara said quietly. "And it almost cost us everything."
