Chapter 13 - The Face in the Mirror

The rain pours down in relentless sheets, plastering the dark hair to the stranger's forehead as they turn to face the armed father. Sarah’s breath catches in her throat, her eyes widening in sheer, unadulterated shock. The woman standing at the precipice of the cliff, holding little Lily securely against her chest in the pink pajamas, is an exact mirror image of Sarah herself. Same height, same facial structure, same amber eyes—except for a jagged, fresh scar running down the left side of her jawline.
Julian lowers his gun a fraction of an inch, his brain struggling to process the impossible visual information before him.
"Clara?" Julian whispers, the word tearing itself out of his throat in a ragged, broken gasp.

Marcus steps out of the SUV behind Sarah, his face turning the color of ash as he stares at the woman on the cliff edge.

"People don't easily die when you stage their funerals for them, Marcus," Elena replies, her eyes flashing with decades of bitter resentment. "Just like Clara didn't plan on dying two years ago—until your corporate goons cut her brakes to stop her from exposing your offshore laundering accounts."
"That's a lie!" Marcus shouts over the wind, holding his hands up defensively. "Clara's crash was an accident!"
"It was no accident, and neither was this," Elena hisses, taking a half-step backward toward the sheer drop where the churning ocean waves crash violently against the jagged rocks far below. Little Lily stirs in her arms, letting out a frightened cry as the cold wind whips across her face.

"Don't you dare move another inch," Julian warns, taking a slow, calculated step forward, his tattooed hand trembling slightly as he aims his weapon not at Elena, but at the empty space beside her. "Take the money, take the company, take everything I own, Elena. Just hand me
