Chapter 8: The Plumber's Discovery
A month after the canceled wedding, the kitchen sink backed up. The plumber arrived and, after dismantling the P-trap, pulled out the massive teardrop diamond ring covered in grime.
He handed it to Arthur. ""Looks like you lost something expensive, Mr. Vance.""
Arthur held the ring. It was cold, heavy, and completely devoid of meaning. He looked out the kitchen window. In the backyard, Clara was chasing Lily and Mayia through the sprinklers, their laughter echoing through the glass.
Arthur took the ring to his safe. He didn't see a symbol of love; he saw the funding for his next project.
