Chapter 11: The Gala and the Ghost
Arthur's company hosted its annual charity gala. For the first time, he asked Clara to be his date. She arrived looking breathtakingly beautiful in a simple, elegant navy dress, a stark contrast to the flashy couture of his previous world.
Halfway through the evening, a commotion broke out near the entrance. It was Elena. Disheveled and desperate, she had snuck past security. She lunged toward Arthur, screaming about how he had ruined her life and demanding compensation.
Before Arthur could step forward, Lily, standing by his side, stepped in front of him. ""You ruined your own life,"" the ten-year-old said, her voice steady and loud enough for the room to hear. ""Leave us alone.""
Security escorted a weeping Elena out. She was never seen in their circles again.
