Chapter 9 - The Ultimatum at the Gates

Autumn wind swept across the courtyard, rustling the dry leaves along the fence line and carrying the distant sirens of police cruisers heading toward the main administration building.

Chloe’s chest heaved as she tried to catch her breath, her mascara slightly smeared under her swollen eyes. The green and white letterman jacket—the symbol of her undisputed reign over the school's social hierarchy—suddenly looked oversized, almost ridiculous on her shaking frame.

"You did this on purpose," Chloe choked out, her voice cracking with suppressed fury and humiliation. "You knew who I was before you transferred here. You picked this exact school, this exact class, just to destroy my family."

Maya didn't deny it. She tilted her head slightly, her dark eyes locking onto Chloe with an unsettling, immovable calm.

"I didn't pick the school because of you, Chloe," Maya replied softly, taking a slow step forward. "I picked it because this building sits on land that was illegally seized from my grandfather's estate twenty years ago. Your father just happened to hand you a front-row seat to his downfall."

"My father worked hard for everything!" Chloe screamed, stepping closer, though she flinched slightly under Maya's unwavering gaze. "We lived in luxury! We had everything! You're just a bitter, jealous nobody who couldn't stand seeing someone else on top!"

"Luxury built on quicksand," Maya countered, her voice ice-cold. She reached out slowly, her fingers brushing the green and white fabric of Chloe's letterman jacket right over the embroidered crest.

Chloe instinctively jerked backward, swatting Maya's hand away with a frantic, desperate motion. "Don't touch me! Stay away from me!"

"You cared so much about hierarchy, about who belongs and who doesn't," Maya said, her voice lowering to a whisper that carried easily over the autumn breeze. "You thought dropping food on someone's head made you powerful. You thought a brand-name jacket made you untouchable. But power isn't a jacket you wear, Chloe. It's truth. And yours just expired."

Chloe opened her mouth to retort, a sharp, venomous insult ready on her tongue, but the words died instantly in her throat.

A sleek black sedan pulled up quietly to the curb beside the school gates. The rear door clicked open, and a middle-aged man in a sharp charcoal suit stepped out. It wasn't a federal agent this time. It was Marcus Vance, Arthur's younger brother—the reclusive corporate auditor who had spent the last three years quietly helping Maya build her legal case from inside the family's financial archives.

Marcus stepped past the gate, holding a thick manila envelope, and nodded respectfully toward Maya.

"The board has accepted the receivership transfer, Maya," Marcus said clearly, his voice steady and authoritative. He then turned his cold, calculating gaze toward the stunned blonde girl standing beside her. "And as for you, Chloe... your trust fund has been officially revoked by court order."
