Chapter 12 - The Architect of Redemption

Marcus Vance stood in the entryway, holding a thick manila envelope identical to the one he had carried at the school gates. His expression was stern, devoid of anger, but carrying an unyielding gravity that commanded the room.
Arthur slowly stood up from his armchair, his posture stiff, his eyes locking onto his younger brother. "Marcus. I thought your lawyers told you to stay away from this property."
"This isn't your property anymore, Arthur," Marcus replied evenly, walking further into the living room and placing the manila envelope squarely on the mahogany coffee table. "The federal receivership has officially transferred the title of this penthouse, along with the remaining corporate holdings, back to the rightful heirs of the Vance Family Trust."
Chloe glared at Marcus with pure venom, wiping a tear from her cheek. "You betrayed your own family! You helped an outsider tear down everything our name stood for!"
Marcus turned his gaze toward his niece, his expression softening just a fraction, though his voice remained sharp. "Your name, Chloe, was built on a lie. For twenty years, your father lived like a king while the family of the man he robbed lived in the shadows. Accountability isn't a betrayal; it's a correction."
Arthur sighed heavily, running a hand through his graying hair. He didn't argue. He knew the ledger of his life had finally been balanced, and the math was undeniable. "Where is she, Marcus?"
"She's downstairs," Marcus answered simply. "She wants to talk to both of you. One last time."
Before Chloe could scream another protest, the private elevator chime echoed softly through the penthouse. The polished metal doors slid open smoothly, revealing Maya standing alone inside the car. She wasn't wearing her school uniform or her black turtleneck anymore; she wore a simple, elegant dark coat, her long dark hair falling neatly over her shoulders.
Maya stepped out of the elevator into the cavernous living room, her dark eyes scanning the opulent space with a calm, analytical detachment. She looked at the expensive paintings on the walls, the luxury furniture, and finally, at the broken, defeated faces of Arthur and Chloe Vance.
"You like the view, Arthur?" Maya asked quietly, her voice cutting through the heavy silence of the penthouse. "It's amazing how high you can climb when you're standing on someone else's shoulders."
Arthur didn't look away. He met her gaze with quiet resignation, his voice barely above a whisper. "What do you want from us now, Maya? You took the company. You took the assets. Is there anything left to destroy?"
Maya stepped closer to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out over the glittering city lights below, before turning slowly back to face them.

"I didn't come here to destroy anything, Arthur," Maya replied, opening her coat slightly. "I came to show you what true power looks like when it doesn't rely on stolen foundations."
