Chapter 2 - The Echo of Truth

The crystal chandelier above the altar vibrated violently as Julian’s recorded confession bounced off the vaulted stone ceilings.

“That is a complete fabrication! Deepfake technology! Lies manufactured by a bitter, bankrupt competitor!”

Julian screamed, his voice cracking as he lunged forward, desperately trying to swat the phone from Richard’s firm grip.

Richard didn’t flinch. He sidestepped Julian with cold, practiced precision, leaving the younger man stumbling forward against the candlelit floral arrangements. The elegant white candles tipped over, singeing the hem of Julian’s pristine white tuxedo trousers. Gasps erupted from the elite crowd of politicians and CEOs seated in the pews, several social elites hastily pulling out their phones to record the unprecedented disaster unfolding before them.

“You call this a fake, Julian?”

The woman in the tailored business suit stepped forward down the central aisle, her voice carrying absolute authority.

“I am Special Agent Miller of the federal financial crimes task force. We have tracked four hundred million dollars in illicit offshore shell accounts tied directly to your personal wedding fund. Your father's entire empire is currently being seized under federal warrant.”

She stated clearly, flashing a shiny gold badge that reflected the flickering candlelight.

Clara slowly lifted her tear-stained, bruised face from her hands, her left eye swollen shut and tinged with deep shades of purple and yellow. She pulled her delicate white lace veil back over her bruised shoulder, her trembling fingers gripping the edge of her heavily soiled wedding dress. She looked directly at Julian, her gaze devoid of the terror that had consumed her just moments before.

“You thought locking me in the bridal suite and breaking my cheekbone would stop me from signing the asset-transfer papers, Julian? You underestimated who owned the pen.”

Clara whispered coldly, her voice steady and echoing clearly throughout the vast sanctuary.

Julian’s face morphed from sheer panic into a mask of pure, unadulterated murderous rage as he realized he had been thoroughly outmaneuvered. He reached inside his jacket, his hand darting toward his waistline with sudden, frantic desperation, revealing the glint of a hidden steel revolver tucked into his trousers.
