Chapter 14 - The Final Shadow

The headlights of the town car illuminated a tall, disheveled figure approaching through the misty parking garage. Julian Vance stood in the damp air, wearing his ruined white button-down shirt—now stained with mud and wine—and his trousers soaked from the storm outside. His dark hair was plastered across his forehead, and his eyes held the wild, unfocused glare of a man who had completely lost his mind.

One of the bodyguards stepped forward, raising his hand to block Julian’s path. "Back away from the vehicle, Mr. Vance. You are in violation of a restraining order."

"Stay out of this!" Julian screamed, his voice cracking hysterically as he lunged past the guard with unexpected speed. He slammed his fists against the tinted window of the back seat where Christian and Elena sat. "Open the door! That's my child in there! You can't just steal my family!"

Inside the car, Elena flinched at the sound of the violent pounding against the glass. "Make him go away, Christian. Please make him stop."

Christian didn't hesitate. He pushed open the car door, stepping out into the damp air of the garage with a quiet, terrifying grace. He didn't raise his voice, but the sheer freezing authority in his posture made Julian stumble back half a step.

"You lost the right to call that child yours the moment you raised your hand against her," Christian said, closing the distance between them with slow, deliberate strides.

"You ruined me!" Julian shrieked, his voice echoing off the concrete walls. "You took my company, my money, my reputation! I built all of that from nothing!"

"You built nothing on truth, Julian," Christian replied coldly. "You built a house of cards on stolen foundations and physical intimidation. And now, the wind has finally caught up to you."

Before Julian could lunge forward, the bodyguards grabbed him firmly by both arms, pinning him against a concrete pillar with practiced efficiency. Julian thrashed and kicked, screaming obscenities into the damp air, but he was completely powerless against their grip.

Christian turned his back on the pathetic spectacle, sliding back into the town car and pulling the heavy door shut, locking out the noise of the outside world. He knelt beside Elena once more, taking her trembling hands in his own.

"He's gone," Christian said softly, brushing her hair back from her forehead. "It's just us now. Push, Elena. I'm right here."

Elena closed her eyes, drawing upon every ounce of strength she had left as the storm outside finally began to break, clearing the way for a brand-new dawn.
