Chapter 12 - Reckoning on the Stairs

The concrete stairwell echoed with the heavy, uneven breathing of the small group as they faced Arthur standing at the landing below. He leaned heavily against the concrete wall, clutching his bruised arm with one hand while holding a rusted iron pipe in the other. His eyes were wide and manic, reflecting the frantic desperation of a cornered animal.
"You really don't know when to quit, do you, Christian?" Arthur sneered, spitting a drop of blood onto the concrete step. "You think you can just swoop in and save the day like some corporate hero. But you're too late. The transfer packet was backed up to an external relay five minutes ago. Vance Global is already dead."
Christian slowly lowered Elena to a seated position against the wall, making sure she was out of harm's way before standing up to face his cousin. The cold fury in Christian’s eyes was absolute.
"You didn't save the company, Arthur; you sold it to foreign competitors who will gut it for parts," Christian said, taking a slow step down the concrete stairs. "You committed treason against your own blood."
"Blood?" Arthur laughed bitterly, the sound bouncing off the bare walls. "Blood didn't buy my penthouse. Blood didn't fund my investments. Your father cut me out ten years ago, and I spent every day since climbing out of the dirt while you inherited the kingdom on a silver platter."
Arthur swung the iron pipe through the air with a menacing arc, stepping upward. "And now, you're going to watch your precious legacy burn to the ground, starting right here."
Before Arthur could lunge forward, one of the bodyguards moved with terrifying speed, vaulting down the steps and intercepting the swing. The heavy pipe struck the metal handrail with a deafening clang that vibrated through the entire stairwell. The bodyguard sidestepped a wild counterpunch, driving a brutal, calculated strike into Arthur's ribs, followed by a swift sweep of his leg that sent the traitor crashing hard onto the concrete steps.
Arthur groaned, dropping the iron pipe as it clattered down the stairs into the darkness below. He lay motionless, gasping for air, utterly defeated.
Elena clutched her stomach, letting out a sharp cry as a wave of intense pain racked her body. Her white dress was stained with soot and sweat, and her face had turned an alarming shade of pale.
"Christian..." she gasped, her fingers digging into his sleeve. "The baby... it's coming. Now."
May you like
Christian froze, all thoughts of corporate boardrooms and stolen ledgers evaporating instantly. He knelt beside her, panic warring with absolute determination in his eyes.
