Chapter 2 - The Hidden Transaction

The silence in the bridal room grew deafening, broken only by Lily’s quiet, rhythmic sniffles against Julian's shoulder. Elena stood frozen, the black smartphone feeling heavier than lead in her trembling palm. The screen remained lit, displaying the chilling text messages that detailed a massive real estate transfer, liquidating every asset Julian supposedly owned into an offshore account registered under an unfamiliar name.
"I planned nothing," Julian said, his voice dangerously low as he kept Lily tucked safely behind him. "I simply refused to let you steal a home that belongs to my daughter."
Sarah and Chloe stepped hesitantly into the room, their light green bridesmaid dresses rustling softly against each other. Sarah’s eyes darted from Elena’s pale face to the glowing phone screen.
"What is going on, Elena?" Sarah asked, stepping closer. "Guests are already taking their seats in the chapel. The minister is waiting."
"The wedding is off," Elena spat out, recovering enough of her composure to try and mask her rising panic. She forced a bitter laugh, though her hands wouldn't stop shaking. "Julian here has evidently lost his mind, bringing his illegitimate daughter into this room to pull some kind of theatrical stunt. Look at this nonsense on the screen. It's clearly a sick joke."
Julian stepped forward, closing the distance between them with a quiet, menacing authority. "It is no joke, Elena. The signature on that deed transfer is yours. You thought my accounts were tied up in our prenuptial agreement, but you forgot that a pre-nup protects what came before the marriage—not what you fraudulently coerced me into signing away yesterday afternoon."
Elena’s heart hammered against her ribs. Yesterday. The signing ceremony at the downtown law office. She had slipped the additional property transfer clause into the stack of routine catering approvals while Julian was distracted by a phone call. She thought she had been entirely invisible.
"You have zero proof of that," Elena lied, though the tremor in her voice betrayed her.
Julian didn't raise his voice. He simply reached out and took the phone back from her frozen fingers. He tapped the screen once, activating an incoming voice recording that began to play aloud in the quiet room.
Elena heard her own voice echoing clearly off the bridal room walls, detailing the exact offshore account number and her plan to empty Julian's real estate portfolio the moment the ceremony concluded.
Chloe gasped, clapping a hand over her mouth in sheer disbelief. Sarah stepped back, looking at Elena as if she were a total stranger.

"Where did you get that audio?" Elena choked out, her carefully constructed world crumbling entirely.
