Chapter 11 - An Unexpected Visitor

Before Julian and Lily could move away from the desk, the study door swung wide open with a sharp crash. Marcus stood in the doorway, breathing heavily, holding a sealed, high-priority courier envelope stamped with the crest of the federal district court.
"Julian, you need to see this immediately," Marcus said, his voice laced with an urgency that instantly put Julian back on high alert. "The police just intercepted a second wire transfer originating from Elena’s secondary offshore account. It wasn't just real estate. She was moving capital from a trust fund you didn't even know existed."
Julian gently set Lily down, standing up to face his attorney with a hardened expression. "What kind of trust fund? I closed all my legacy accounts years ago."
"It’s not yours," Marcus explained, tearing open the heavy envelope and pulling out several pages of legal documentation. "It’s your late wife’s personal family trust—the one established by her grandfather before he passed away. According to these filings, Elena somehow managed to forge your signature as the primary executor three months ago, attempting to drain the entire reserve dedicated to Lily’s education and medical care."
A cold rage flared deep within Julian’s chest. Stealing his real estate was one thing, but touching the legacy left behind by his late wife for their daughter crossed a line that could never be forgiven.
"How was she able to access that trust?" Julian asked, his voice chillingly calm. "Those documents require dual authorization from the family bank and myself."
"She had an insider," Marcus said grimly, sliding a photograph across the desk. "Look at this signature authorization card from the downtown branch. It was approved by branch manager Richard Vance—Elena’s uncle."
Julian stared at the photograph, the pieces of the elaborate conspiracy finally clicking into place. This wasn't just a solo act of greed by a desperate bride; it was a calculated family heist designed to systematically strip him of everything he held dear.
Lily stepped closer, noticing the tense atmosphere in the room. She tugged gently on the hem of Julian’s tuxedo jacket. "Daddy, what's wrong? Why is Mr. Marcus looking so sad?"
Julian forced a reassuring smile, kneeling down to look into her eyes. "Nothing to worry about, sweetheart. Just some boring adult paperwork. Why don't you go down to the kitchen and ask Mrs. Gable to make us some hot chocolate?"
Lily nodded, sensing the gravity in the room without fully understanding it, and scampered out through the connecting private hallway, closing the door carefully behind her.
As soon as the click of the latch echoed in the room, Julian stood up and slammed his hand flat onto the desk.
"Call the prosecutor back," Julian ordered, his eyes flashing with determination. "Expand the arrest warrants to include her uncle Richard. I want every single person involved in this conspiracy brought to justice before the night is over."

Marcus nodded grimly, pulling out his phone. "I'm already dialing."
