Chapter 1 - The Shattered Illusion

The tension inside the bridal room was suffocating, thick with the scent of expensive hairspray and crushed white roses. Elena stood rigid in her designer gown, her veil trembling as she stared down at the small blond girl sobbing uncontrollably by the vanity. The golden hour sunlight cut through the tall arched windows, casting sharp shadows across the polished hardwood floor.

"Stop crying!" Elena snapped, her voice sharp enough to cut glass.

Lily squeezed her eyes shut, clutching her empty wicker basket as her small shoulders shook. The door banged open against the wall, revealing Julian in his immaculate black tuxedo. He rushed forward, dropping to his knees to pull the terrified child into his protective embrace.

"Please don't marry her, Daddy!" Lily sobbed into his lapel, her voice muffled and desperate.

Elena’s face twisted into an ugly mask of shock and fury. She lunged forward, her manicured nails hooking into the rim of the flower girl's basket. With a violent jerk, she ripped it away, sending white rose petals scattering across the floor like sudden snow.

"Don't touch my daughter," Julian growled, rising to his feet to shield the child with his broad frame. His eyes were cold, stripped of every ounce of the charm he usually wore.

With trembling hands, Lily reached deep into her pocket and pulled out a sleek black smartphone. She held it out toward the bride like a small shield. Elena grabbed it, her eyes darting across the illuminated screen. The color instantly drained from her carefully contoured face, leaving her looking ghostly and hollow.

Julian glanced down at the screen over her shoulder, his jaw tightening into a hard line. In the background, two bridesmaids—Sarah and Chloe—peered through the doorway, their mouths parted in silent horror as they witnessed the absolute collapse of the wedding of the year.

Elena's breath hitched in her throat as she stared at the glowing words, realizing that her entire future had just vanished in a single notification.

"You planned this," Elena whispered, her voice cracking with sudden dread as she looked up at the man she thought she knew.
