Chapter 12 - The Uncle's Confession

The interrogation room at the downtown precinct was stark, lit by a flickering fluorescent overhead bulb that cast long, harsh shadows across the stainless steel table. Richard Vance sat rigidly in his chair, his expensive gray suit wrinkled, his fingers nervously tapping against the cold metal surface. He looked every bit the disgraced bank manager he now was.

The heavy metal door clicked open, and Julian stepped into the room, followed closely by Marcus. Julian did not sit down; he stood towering over the table, his arms crossed over his chest, his gaze fixed on the man who had abused his professional trust to help plunder his family's legacy.

Richard swallowed hard, avoiding Julian’s piercing stare. "Sterling. Look, I can explain everything. Elena pressured me. She said you were emotionally unstable, that you were going to ruin the family financially, and that I was just protecting our interests."

"Protecting your interests by forging legal documents to drain my late wife’s trust fund?" Julian asked, his voice dangerously quiet. "That isn't protection, Richard. That’s grand larceny and conspiracy."

"It was a mistake," Richard stammered, sweating profusely under the harsh lights. "We never actually completed the final transfer. The system flagged it this morning before the funds cleared. You didn't lose a single cent!"

"You didn't stop because of a sudden wave of moral clarity," Julian countered, leaning forward until his face was inches from Richard's. "You stopped because Lily caught Elena in the bridal room and exposed the entire scheme before the wire hit your offshore account."

Richard fell silent, realizing every lie he attempted to spin was immediately dismantled by the absolute facts. He slumped back in his chair, defeated.

"What do you want, Julian?" Richard whispered, his voice trembling. "Prison will ruin me. I'll lose my pension, my home, everything."

"You should have thought about that before you signed your niece's fraudulent paperwork," Julian replied coldly. "Right now, your only chance at avoiding a maximum security sentence is a full, recorded confession implicating every single co-conspirator involved in this network."

Richard looked up, his eyes wide with desperation. "You want the whole ring? Not just Elena and me?"

"Every single person who helped orchestrate this," Julian said firmly. "Give me the names of the lawyers, the offshore brokers, and anyone else who took a cut of her previous schemes, and I'll instruct my legal team to recommend a reduced sentence during your plea hearing."

Richard hesitated for a long, agonizing moment, weighing the loyalty of his family against the grim reality of spending the next ten years behind bars.

He slowly reached into his suit pocket, pulling out a small flash drive and sliding it across the metal table.

"Everything is on there," Richard said softly. "Every name, every account number, every transaction."
