Chapter 5: The Verdict

The judge’s gavel echoed through the courtroom. Given the overwhelming evidence and the assault, Victoria faced years in prison. However, when it was time for victim impact statements, Eleanor took the stand.
""Your Honor,"" Eleanor began, ""Sending this young woman to a cage will only harden her heart. She is driven by a sickness of the soul—a belief that money makes her superior. I ask for a suspended sentence, on one condition. She must serve 2,000 hours of community service. Under my direct supervision."" The judge, respecting the legendary philanthropist, agreed. Victoria was stripped of her wealth, her reputation, and her freedom. She belonged to Eleanor now.
