Chapter 13: The True Measure of Wealth**

Julian sat on the terrace of the family home during a cool autumn sunset. The leaves of the oak trees glowed amber and gold in the evening breeze.

Maria walked out carrying a tray of tea, laughing as Evelyn debated the recipe for homemade apple pie with two volunteers from the foundation.

"Julian," Evelyn called out, waving him over. "Come settle this argument. Does cinnamon go in before or after the apples are baked?"

Julian laughed, walking over and wrapping an arm around his mother's shoulders. "Mom, as long as you're the one baking it, whatever you say is law."

They sat together as the sun dipped below the horizon. The silence between them was no longer filled with suspicion or unsaid grief. It was full, peaceful, and anchored in deep gratitude.

Julian looked at his mother’s hands—no longer shaking, no longer bruised, but steady and full of grace.

"You saved me, Mom," Julian murmured.

"No, Julian," Evelyn smiled, leaning her head on his shoulder. "Truth saved us both. It just needed someone brave enough to turn on the light."
