The crystal chandelier hummed with an icy vibration as Julian stood frozen in the grand foyer. His hand shook against the cold screen of the phone. On the display, the hidden camera footage played in relentless high-definition—Chloe wrapped in the arms of another man inside their master suite.
"Chloe..." Julian’s voice dropped to a gravelly whisper. "Who is this?"
Chloe’s rehearsed innocence crumbled into something sharp and cornered. Her manicured fingers slipped from the wooden broom handle, clattering loudly across the polished marble floor. "Julian, you’re not seeing the full context. Elena is lying to you! She's old, she's losing her mind, and that maid has been stealing from us!"
"Enough," Julian snapped, the fury inside him hardening into cold resolve.
Beside him, his mother, Evelyn, leaned heavily against Maria, the maid whose courage had broken months of silence. Julian knelt beside Evelyn, gently tracing the dark violet bruise on her frail arm. Guilt struck him like a physical blow. While he had spent six months traveling between New York and London expanding his venture capital firm, his mother had been imprisoned inside the very home he built to keep her safe.
"Maria," Julian said softly, never looking up from his mother's weathered hands. "Call Dr. Harrison. Now."
"Julian, please!" Chloe stepped forward, her voice pitching higher. "I gave up my entire career to run this estate for you! You think it's easy taking care of an invalid while you play CEO across the world?"
Julian stood up slowly, towering over his wife. The woman he thought was his partner looked like a complete stranger. "You didn't take care of her, Chloe. You silenced her."
