Chapter 14: The Confession

Julian’s smirk vanished entirely as Marcus reached the bottom of the staircase, standing just a few feet away. Behind Marcus, David and Henderson emerged from the shadows of the hallway, blocking every possible exit route. Julian looked around, realizing he was thoroughly cornered, yet his desperation made him reckless.
"You think you're so smart, don't you, Marcus?" Julian sneered, his voice echoing in the grand foyer. "Sitting up in your ivory tower while the rest of us scrap for scraps. I built this family's foundation just as much as you did before the old man cut me out!"
"You stole from the company, Julian, and you gambled away your inheritance," Marcus retorted, his voice steady and devoid of anger, which only seemed to enrage his cousin further. "And tonight, you tried to destroy an innocent girl's life just to manipulate a corporate vote."
"Business is war!" Julian shouted, his composure finally cracking. He lunged forward, his hand darting toward his coat pocket as if reaching for something concealed.
Before Julian could pull his hand free, David moved with lightning speed, tackling him to the polished marble floor with practiced efficiency. A heavy burner phone slid across the floor, coming to a stop near Elena’s polished black shoes. Elena looked down at the device, then up at Julian as he struggled against the security chief's grip.
"Get off me!" Julian snarled into the marble, thrashing against David's weight. "You can't prove a damn thing! The girl's badge was used, not mine! It's hearsay!"
"It's not hearsay when the entire conversation is recorded on our secure servers," a calm voice stated from the top of the stairs.
Henderson stepped forward, holding a high-fidelity digital audio recorder. He pressed a button, and the crisp, unmistakable audio of Julian's voice filled the foyer—coordinating the timeline with Sarah, detailing the theft of the jewelry, and explicitly plotting the framing of Elena.
Julian stopped struggling, his body going rigid as he realized the depth of the trap he had walked into. The audio recording played out in the silent room, a damning confession echoing off the walls.
Evelyn looked down at Julian with a mixture of pity and absolute disdain. "It's over, Julian. Your war is lost."

Marcus signaled to David, who hauled Julian up to his feet with a firm grip, slapping a pair of heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists. The cling of the metal rang out sharply in the grand hallway, sounding like the final toll of a bell.
"Take him away," Marcus commanded quietly. "Call the authorities. Tell them we have a trespasser ready for formal arrest."
