Chapter 6 - The Uninvited Guest

Stepping out from the shadows of the private hallway was Arthur Vance, the elderly, ruthless chairman of the board, flanked by two towering corporate security guards.

"The merger was finalized twenty minutes ago, Elena," Chairman Vance said, his voice smooth, gravelly, and entirely devoid of human empathy. "Your personal shares have already been legally absorbed into the new corporate holding entity."

Julian scrambled up from the broken glass, instantly smoothing down his rumpled suit jacket and assuming a mask of respectful corporate deference.

"Chairman Vance, we were just resolving a minor domestic dispute regarding the asset restructuring," Julian lied smoothly, shooting a warning glare at Elena.

"I see," Vance replied, his cold eyes scanning the ransacked boardroom, the broken glass, and Clara still struggling to stand up from the floor. "A domestic dispute that nearly resulted in the destruction of our most sensitive corporate documents. How very unprofessional."

Clara finally managed to rise, smoothing down her torn red dress while offering the chairman a trembling, practiced smile.

"Elena was simply overwhelmed by the emotional toll of the transition, sir," Clara added quickly, playing her part with chilling perfection. "We offered her a generous severance package, but she chose a path of unnecessary destruction."

Elena stood entirely motionless at the center of the room, her gaze shifting between Julian, Clara, and the towering chairman. The betrayal was complete, institutionalized, and backed by the full weight of corporate law. She had lost her marriage, her home, her wealth, and her future in the span of a single evening. Yet, as she looked at the cold, calculating smiles on their faces, something inside her snapped, replacing despair with a quiet, terrifying resolve.

"You believe the law protects your theft," Elena said, her voice dropping an octave, carrying a strange, heavy resonance that made Chairman Vance pause.

"The law is precisely what is standing between you and total destitution, my dear," Vance retorted, turning to signal his security guards. "Escort her out of the building immediately. Make sure she never steps foot on corporate property again."

The two large security guards stepped forward, their massive frames blocking the exit as they reached out to grab Elena by her arms.

"Don't touch me," Elena commanded, stepping backward toward the floor-to-ceiling window as a sudden, blinding flash of lightning illuminated the stormy night sky.
