Chapter 1 - The Descent Begins

"Get out of our lives forever!" Julian shouted, his voice echoing violently against the polished marble walls of the corporate atrium.
Elena stumbled forward, her light blue coat catching the edge of the brushed steel railing as she fought to maintain her balance near the descending steps. Her hand instinctively flew to her protruding belly, a gesture of desperate protection that only fueled the cold fury burning in Julian’s sharp, unforgiving eyes. Just a few paces behind them stood Clara, her fitted red sleeveless dress vivid against the sterile corporate gray, watching the confrontation with an unsettling, chilling composure.
"You cannot erase what we built, Julian," Elena whispered, her breath hitching in the cold indoor air as she turned slowly to face him.
"We built nothing except a liability," Julian retorted, stepping closer with a menacing rigidity in his dark blue suit. "Clara and I are moving forward, and your presence is a permanent threat to our corporate restructuring."
"You are throwing away your own flesh and blood for a merger," Elena replied, her voice trembling slightly yet carrying a profound, piercing clarity.
"Keep your voice down," Clara finally spoke, stepping forward with a predatory grace, her dark hair swaying against her bare shoulders. "No one is listening, Elena. You are entirely alone in this building, and by midnight, your shares transfer smoothly to us."
Elena stared at Clara, realizing the horrifying depth of the conspiracy that had trapped her in this high-rise labyrinth. The escalator ahead stretched downward into a dim, deserted lobby, guarded by locked security gates that Julian must have arranged in advance. Every exit was sealed, and the corporate boardroom table on the upper floor held the forged documents that would strip her of everything.
"You think you have won everything," Elena said, her eyes narrowing as a sudden surge of raw courage displaced her fear.
"I know we have," Julian sneered, grabbing her arm and pushing her toward the moving metal stairs.
Elena lost her footing on the top step, tumbling heavily down the metallic descent as her phone slipped from her coat pocket and shattered on the floor below.
Julian watched her fall with cold indifference, turning immediately to Clara to celebrate their ruthless victory.

Clara smiled, bending down to pick up the shattered phone, only to notice the red recording light blinking steadily on the fractured screen.
