Chapter 14 - The Runway Chase

The rain lashed horizontally across the private airfield as the turbulent wind whipped the security fences and warning lights into a frenzy.

A sleek white Gulfstream jet was slowly accelerating down the wet tarmac, its twin jet engines screaming as it prepared for takeoff. Inside the private terminal's control tower, Detective Marcus slammed his fist onto the master override button, triggering the runway emergency barrier lights.

"Halt that aircraft immediately! This is a federal interception order!" Marcus shouted into the radio console.

On the runway, a series of heavy pneumatic barricades rose sharply out of the asphalt right in front of the accelerating private jet. The pilot slammed on the emergency brakes, causing the massive aircraft to screech violently, skidding sideways across the wet pavement before coming to a jarring, smoking halt just inches from the concrete barrier.

Inside the luxurious cabin of the private jet, Chairman Vance cursed loudly, slamming his briefcase shut as the cabin lights flickered and died. He turned to rush toward the emergency exit, but as the main cabin door hissed open, it wasn't federal marshals standing in the doorway—it was Elena.

She stood at the top of the mobile staircase, the wind catching her light blue coat as she stared down the corrupt chairman with an unshakable, glacial calm.

"You can't escape, Arthur," Elena said, her voice carrying clearly over the roar of the idling jet engines.

Vance sneered, stepping back inside the cabin with his briefcase clutched tightly in his hand. "You think a ruined woman can stop me, Elena? I own half the politicians in this city."

"You don't own the truth," Elena replied, stepping fully into the cabin as Detective Marcus and a squad of armed federal agents swarmed up the stairs behind her.

Vance backed up against the wood-paneled wall of the cabin, realizing every exit was completely sealed. He raised his briefcase defensively, his face contorting in pure rage as Marcus stepped forward, clicking the steel handcuffs around the aging billionaire's wrists with a satisfying, metallic snap.

"Arthur Vance, you are under arrest for international money laundering, corporate fraud, and racketeering," Marcus declared, reading him his rights over the howling wind.

As Vance was forcefully hauled out of the aircraft into the pouring rain, Elena stood alone in the center of the luxurious cabin, taking a long, deep, steady breath of clean air.
