Chapter 14

The cold concrete floor of the underground garage felt damp beneath Clara’s bare feet as she gripped the heavy tire iron tighter, her knuckles turning bone-white. The distance between her and Julian seemed to stretch endlessly, measured only by the rhythmic dripping of a leaky pipe in the corner.
"You killed Alex," Clara said, her voice trembling slightly but carrying a razor-sharp conviction that refused to waver. "And you used me to launder your guilt. Every smile, every touch—it was all just part of your insurance policy."
Julian stopped walking, the silver revolver steady in his right hand. A dark, humorless chuckle escaped his lips. "Alex was weak, Clara. He wanted to blow the whistle on the foundation's offshore restructuring just because of a few regulatory technicalities. He was going to ruin everything I built. I didn't just protect my company; I saved our future."
"By ruining my sister's life?" Clara shouted, tears of rage and grief finally spilling over her lashes. "By locking her in a cage while you wore a stolen mask?"
"Elena was simply collateral damage," Julian replied coldly, raising the barrel of the gun slightly. "And unfortunately, you've decided to share her fate."
Before Julian could pull the trigger, the screech of tires echoed down the long concrete ramp of the garage. Headlights flared brilliantly against the white walls as a convoy of federal SUVs burst into the space, their emergency strobes painting the room in flashing crimson and azure.
"Drop the weapon! Federal agents! Drop it now!"
The commanding roar of the lead marshal echoed off the concrete as half a dozen armed officers poured out of the vehicles, their weapons instantly locked onto Julian.
Julian froze. He glanced from the armed agents surrounding him to the exit ramp blocked by heavy patrol cars. The trap was completely shut. With a snarl of pure frustration, he tossed the revolver onto the concrete floor and raised his hands slowly above his head, falling back against the hood of his Mercedes as the officers rushed forward to tackle and cuff him.
Clara dropped the heavy tire iron, letting it clang loudly against the floor as her knees buckled. She sank down onto the cold cement, burying her face in her blood-stained hands as the overwhelming weight of the past two years finally crashed down upon her.
Heavy footsteps echoed across the garage floor, followed by a familiar, beloved voice calling her name.

"Clara!"
Elena sprinted across the concrete, dropping to her knees beside her sister and pulling Clara into a fierce, suffocating embrace. They held onto each other tightly, weeping tears of sorrow, relief, and enduring sisterly love while the flashing red and blue lights illuminated the dark garage, signaling the true end of the nightmare.
