Chapter 14 - The Final Threshold

The heavy metal security door behind Leo swung open with a resounding metallic crash that echoed sharply off the cold concrete walls of the archive vault. The corporate agent stood in the threshold, his dark suit blending seamlessly into the shadows of the utility corridor, holding a small master keycard in his right hand. Ms. Vance stood just behind him in the doorway, her face set in a mask of grim determination as she stared directly at the open wooden exit leading out to the ravine.

"Going somewhere, Leo?" the agent asked smoothly, his voice devoid of any surprise as he stepped calmly into the freezing room. "You really should know by now that all internal service exits are wired directly to the main security grid."

Leo froze on the threshold of the wooden door, the cool evening air brushing against his face while his heart hammered wildly against his ribs. He was so close—just a few more steps up that concrete ramp and he would have been out in the open air where they could never catch him again. But as he turned to face them, he noticed the small red indicator light on the wall beside the exit door blinking furiously, signaling that the alarm had already been triggered the moment the aged wood had cracked open.

"You can't keep me here forever! Someone is going to find out what you're doing!" Leo shouted, his voice echoing desperately off the towering server racks.

"No one is going to find out anything, young man," Ms. Vance said, stepping forward into the vault with slow, measured paces. "The corporate transition is finalized as of tonight. By tomorrow morning, this entire wing will be sealed off for structural renovations."

"Renovations? You're burying me alive!" Leo yelled, taking a desperate step backward toward the ravine exit before the agent moved with terrifying speed to block his path.

The corporate agent closed the distance in a fraction of a second, grabbing Leo firmly by the arm and spinning him away from the wooden door with brutal efficiency. The plastic zip-ties bit painfully into his wrists as he was shoved roughly back toward the center of the server room, his sneakers skidding across the metal grating.

"Compliance is the only option left to you, Leo," the agent said coldly, pulling a small digital tablet from his suit pocket and tapping the screen twice. "Sign the transfer documents, and we ensure a quiet relocation to a specialized facility. Refuse, and this room becomes your permanent address until the audit concludes."

Leo stared at the agent's glowing tablet screen, his mind racing through every possible scenario, every desperate choice, and every consequence of the last few hours. He looked up at the ceiling security camera mounted above the server racks, noticing for the first time that its lens was not a machine at all, but a two-way glass observation panel leading directly to the upper administrative floor. Someone up there was watching the final confrontation unfold in real-time, waiting to see how the young boy's spirit would finally break under the weight of the conspiracy.

"I'll never sign it," Leo whispered, his voice steadying with a sudden, unbreakable resolve that made both adults pause in their tracks. "My mom is coming back. And she won't stop
