Chapter 10 - The GPS Coordinates

The harsh buzzing vibration of the burner phone inside Julian’s black blazer pocket cut through the howling coastal wind blowing through the shattered double doors. Julian reached inside, pulled the device out, and stared at the glowing screen. The incoming call had already stopped, but it had left behind a high-priority push notification containing a digital packet: a live GPS coordinate and a timestamped countdown timer currently sitting at exactly forty-eight minutes.

Elena peered over his arm, her eyes scanning the numeric string. "That's not an international proxy number anymore. Those coordinates... that's the old cliffside lighthouse on the edge of the estate's private property."

Julian tapped the screen, expanding the embedded satellite map. A live video feed popped up in a small PiP window. The grainy, low-light night-vision camera showed a small, weather-beaten concrete structure battered by the churning ocean waves below. Inside the ground-level chamber of the lighthouse, tied securely to a heavy steel support pillar with heavy-duty zip ties, sat Maria. And resting safely in a padded portable carrier at her feet was little Maya, crying softly into the darkness.

Julian’s face drained of all color, the restrained emotion finally snapping as a primal, terrifying rage surged through his veins. He looked down at the countdown timer: 45:12 and ticking downward.

"She has my daughter," Julian whispered, his voice trembling with a mixture of sheer panic and murderous intent. He shoved the phone into his pocket and turned toward the grand staircase. "I'm going to the armory in the basement. I'm ending this tonight."

Elena grabbed his wrist, her grip iron-clad, stopping him dead in his tracks. Her dark eyes burned with an intensity that matched his own.

"You can't go down there alone, Julian. Those mercenaries were just the vanguard. Clara knew you had a private armory; she designed the security layout of this house with our father twenty years ago. If you walk into that lighthouse without a tactical sweep, you'll walk right into a crossfire."

Julian stared down at her hand on his wrist, then looked up into her eyes. The suspicion that had poisoned their marriage over the past few hours evaporated entirely, replaced by a terrifying, hard-earned mutual trust.

"What do you propose we do, Elena?" he asked, using her true name for the very first time, tasting the syllables as if sealing a blood pact.

"We don't play her game," Elena replied, a dangerous, calculating smile touching the corners of her lips. "We use the secondary maintenance tunnels. The ones Clara forgot were sealed off after the estate was remodeled. We flank her from the cliffside intake vent before the timer hits zero."

Julian nodded slowly, the tactical plan forming instantly in his trained mind. He turned around, walking toward the grand staircase with deliberate, lethal grace. But as they reached the second-floor landing, the smart home wall panel behind them suddenly chimed, flickering to life on its own.

A live security camera feed from inside the lighthouse flashed onto the screen, showing Clara standing directly over Maria and the baby, holding a heavy industrial detonator in her bare hand.
