Chapter 15 - A New Dawn

The morning sun broke through the heavy Chicago clouds, casting a warm, golden light across the skyline as the rain-washed streets glistened below. Inside the grand library of the newly restored Sterling estate, the heavy oak doors stood wide open, welcoming the fresh morning air.

Marcus stood by the tall arched window, looking out over the manicured gardens where he had once played as a child without ever knowing his true name. He wore a simple black sweater and dark trousers, completely stripped of the formal tuxedo and golden expectations of the Vance dynasty.

Behind him, Arthur Vance stood by the mahogany desk, closing the final leather-bound portfolio with a crisp, definitive thud.

"The federal prosecutors have accepted our plea deals," Arthur announced, turning to face them. "Evelyn and David will spend the next twenty years behind bars for corporate fraud, kidnapping, and embezzlement. Chloe’s cooperation reduced her sentence, but she’s looking at five years minimum. The Vance empire is officially liquidated, and every remaining asset has been transferred back to the Sterling trust."

Maya sat at the desk, looking over the certified legal documents that officially restored her family’s legacy. She looked up, her eyes meeting Marcus’s across the sunlit room.

The road ahead would be long, filled with healing, rebuilding, and rediscovering a family history stolen in the shadows of greed. But the lies were gone. The false wedding veils had been burned away by truth, leaving behind something real, unbreakable, and pure.

Marcus walked over to the desk, placing his hand gently over Maya’s as she signed the final document with a steady, confident hand.

"So," Marcus said, a faint, genuine smile finally reaching his eyes. "Does this mean our wedding is officially canceled?"

Maya looked up at him, a spark of playful warmth returning to her gaze for the first time in years.

"Canceled?" Maya smiled, closing the leather portfolio and standing up to face him. "No, Marcus. We’re just going to do it right this time—no lies, no hidden ledgers, and absolutely no Vances on the guest list."

Marcus pulled her into his arms, holding her close as the morning light washed over them, bathing the restored estate in a brilliant, unshadowed dawn.
