CHAPTER 7: The Symphony of Recovery

The surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital lasted seven agonizing hours. Julian sat in the waiting room, holding Clara’s silver pendant in one hand and Lily’s favorite music book in the other. He didn't sleep, nor did he answer the dozens of frantic calls from his business managers warning that Arthur had frozen his secondary trust accounts. None of it mattered.

When the surgical doors finally swung open, Dr. Chen stepped out, pulling down his surgical mask with a broad smile. “The decompression was completely successful. The nerve pathways responded immediately.”

When Lily woke up in the recovery suite, Julian was sitting right beside her bed, holding her small hand.

“Dad?” she murmured, using the word for the very first time.

Julian felt a lump form in his throat, choking back a sob of pure gratitude. “I’m right here, sweetheart. I’m right here.”

“My toes feel tingly,” she whispered, looking down at the heavy blankets. “Like fizzy water.”

“That’s the music coming back to your legs,” Julian said, kissing her forehead. “Take your time. We have all the time in the world.”

Over the next three months, the rehabilitation center became their new world. Julian never left her side. He composed new piano exercises specifically designed to match her physical therapy routines, turning every painful step on the parallel bars into a rhythmic dance.
