CHAPTER 6: Sins of the Grandfather

The confrontation occurred in the high-rise boardroom of Vance Enterprises. Julian slammed the medical file onto Arthur’s glass desk, the loud crack echoing across the silent floor.

“You knew,” Julian spat, his eyes burning with fury. “When Clara died in that hospice three years ago, you tracked Lily down to the foster system. You blocked her medical care!”

Arthur didn't flinch. He leaned back in his leather chair, calmly adjusting his gold cufflinks. “I protected this family from a financial parasite. If that girl had remained healthy, Clara’s estate lawyers would have filed for child support that would have drained millions from our private holdings.”

“She was an innocent child!” Julian roared, leaning over the desk. “Your own flesh and blood! You left her confined to a wheelchair in an underfunded institution just to protect a stock valuation?”

“Legacy requires sacrifices, Julian,” Arthur said coldly. “You were always too sentimental. That’s why you failed to take over the firm. That’s why you ran away to play music for peasants.”

Julian leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. “I’m taking her to Boston for surgery next week. And when she is healed, I’m going to the district attorney with these records. You didn't just abandon a grandchild, Arthur. You committed medical negligence and fraud.”

As Julian turned to leave, Arthur’s mask finally cracked, replaced by a desperate, venomous glare. “You cross me, Julian, and you won't have a dime left to pay for that hospital room.”
