Chapter 9: A New Path**

Emily looked at Julian, surprised. "Mr. Vance, you’ve already done far too much. The medical coverage alone saved my mother’s life."

"You have an extraordinary eye for detail and an unshakeable moral compass," Julian replied, leaning against the stone balustrade. "The Vance Foundation needs an assistant director for community oversight—someone who understands the real struggles of the people we are trying to help. Someone who cannot be bought."

"I don't have a business degree," Emily hesitated. "I only completed two years of college before I had to work full-time."

"Degrees can be finished, Emily. Integrity cannot be taught," Julian said. "The foundation will fund your business management degree. In return, you help me ensure every dollar we donate goes directly to families in need."

Emily looked out over the blooming rose garden. For the first time in her life, she saw a future defined not by survival, but by purpose.

"I accept," she said, extending her hand with a genuine smile. "On one condition."

Julian raised an eyebrow, amused. "What condition?"

"Call me Emily. No more titles."

Julian laughed and shook her hand firmly. "Deal, Emily."
